The full name of the POP project is “Pockets of Perception — We Are One Community.” It is designed as an apprentice style program to cultivate students’ creativity while encouraging multi-cultural understanding and community investment through the creation of public art.
“Students on the team collaborate with their teammates from across the city on different design concepts and, with the guidance of their instructors, come to a consensus on their project,” explains DCF Executive Director EmmaJean Woodyard. “They learn from artists and work with business professionals and city leaders to turn their collective vision into a real work of art that will permanently enhance the community.”
This is the fourth POP project since the program was introduced in 2010.
POP Team 4 will complete a mural to be installed in a public place. At the conclusion of the project, each team member will receive a stipend up to $1,000 along with great experience to list on college or job applications.
